Apple Compote

Apple Compote
Bursting with fall flavor, you'll want to have a jar of this compote in your fridge to pair with desserts, baked goods, and sweet breakfast fare like pancakes, waffles, or this Crème Brûlée French Toast.
Ingredients
- 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 lb. apples (about 3-4 large*), cored, peeled, and diced into 1-inch pieces
- ⅓ cup maple syrup
- 2 Tablespoons water
- Pinch of kosher or fine sea salt
- 2 teaspoons vanilla bean paste
Instructions
Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat until bubbling. Add the diced apples, maple syrup, water, and pinch of salt. Cover and gently cook, stirring often, for about 10 minutes until apples are soft. Remove the lid, add the vanilla paste, and stir to combine. Continue to cook until the sauce is thickened, about 10 more minutes.
Notes
*Combine different varieties of apples if desired to add depth to the flavor.
