Instructions:

Lakewinds Food Co-op is committed to giving back to our community, and we’ve been doing so for 45 years. We invite our owners and customers to participate in this program in a tangible way by choosing to “round-up” their grocery bill to the nearest dollar. These donations are given to recipient organizations that share Lakewinds’ commitment and vision for healthier communities.

Each year, a calendar of monthly recipients will be established. One organization per month is selected by Lakewinds employees, and all donations made during that month will go to the designated recipient. Organizations may be a recipient no more than once per year.  Recipients are chosen in December of each year for the following calendar year.

To be considered for Round Up, an organization’s mission and work should relate to:

  • Equity, access, and sustainability in the local food system
  • Sustainable agriculture and organic food producers

Organizations must be:

  • Non-sectarian and non-partisan
  • A registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit
  • Based in the Twin Cities metro area served by Lakewinds Food Co-op

Priority will be given to organizations that:

  • Are using Round Up funds for projects directly related to food access, building a healthier and more equitable food system, or sustainable agriculture
  • Use this funding for specific projects, not for general operating costs

Application:
  • Lakewinds Front End staff may have 15 seconds or less to communicate with each customer about our monthly recipient organization. In one or two sentences, please “pitch” your organization and how the funds will be used.
  • What is the specific project to be funded by Lakewinds Round Up donations? Please include as much information about that project as possible.
  • IF SELECTED: The following items will be required
    • Brochures or flyers about your organization for distribution in Lakewinds 3 locations (50 per store, more if needed later in the month) Note: Due to COVID-19, we are giving recipient organizations the option of mailing brochures or flyers to each of our 3 stores.
    • Photos representing your work to be used on Lakewinds website and social media (.jpg or .eps files please) along with a digital copy of your high-resolution logo.
    • A member of your organization to provide one 15 minute training session for cashiers in each store prior to the beginning of the designated month (Note: due to COVID-19, we are asking recipients to send educational materials or talking points to the Front End teams prior to the start of their Round Up month.)
    • If possible, an in-person meeting after the Round Up month with the Lakewinds marketing team to take photos and learn about how the funds have been used, so details can be shared with our customers. (Note: In person follow-ups are only offered if safety allows and the organization has the ability to adhere to social distancing during the meeting. Organizations who are not able to commit to an in person follow-up are still eligible for consideration for Round Up.)
